CSS Celtic win Malcolm Foy Trophy (Updated)

Braintree Town FC was the venue for today’s Malcolm Foy Memorial Trophy Final.

CSS Celtic and Broomfield went head to head for the second time in a final this season with CSS coming out on top this time with a 5-0 win.

CSS started the game bang on the front foot having most of the early possession, Charlie Frost found space down the right and he pulled the ball back for the unmarked Rory Bone who should of done better with his shot straight at the keeper, then a corner nearly lead to a goal when Lodge headed the ball towards Falco who headed goal wards forcing Broomfield keeper Newton to push the ball over the bar, then a shot from Falco was misjudged as going wide by Newton but the ball hit the post and went back across goal but no one was on hand to find the net. Broomfield were not helping themselves consistently giving back possession to their opponents and when they did venture over the half way line on most occasions were caught offside, CSS eventually took the lead in the 17th minute, a ball in from the right found Rob COLE and he found the net with a nice right foot finish, two minutes later it was 2-0, a well delivered corner from Cole found Lodge who laid the ball back for Pete FALCO to fire in to the net. Broomfield were struggling to deal with Cole’s good deliveries from corners and another caused panic when keeper Newton was forced to save Falco’s header with his legs, the play continued in Broomfield’s half as some nice play again sent Frost away again down the right, he played it back to Bone who played in Lodge for a fierce shot which Newton pushed round the post, from the resultant corner by Bone, Scott LODGE rose high at the far post and headed the ball in to the roof of the net. Broomfield who had seemed to have made some changes to their usual line up tried to respond by making four substitutions in the next few minutes as they tried to find a way back in to the game, but a minute from the break a fine ball from deep by Sean Radley found Rory BONE whose lovely first touch lead to a nice finish past Newton for his second to make it 4-0 and it could of been five in added on time as a dominant first half for CSS ended when Frost’s shot was pushed round the post by Newton.

Half time: CSS Celtic 4 Broomfield 0

The second half was fairly uneventful as the match was over as a contest, lots of further substitutions by both teams affected the flow of play and with CSS having taken their foot slightly off the pedal, Broomfield did have some forays in to the final third, a long drive by Josh Duhig was deflected away for a corner and Joseph Jones managed a couple of attempts at goal and then Andrew Roche fired over when well placed and finally Josh Grimble hit the post from a corner as they tried for a consolation goal, it wasn’t to be though and Rory BONE managed to get his hat-trick to make it 5-0 when the ball went in off him after a poor clearance from Newton.
