Phoenix triumph against Bardfield

The first of this seasons cup finals took place on Sunday at a wet Halstead Town with the Division Three Cup between Great Bardfield and Witham Phoenix.

It was Phoenix who had the first opportunity when 2 mins into game Connor West shot wide then three minutes later he opened scoring with a well placed goal.

Bardfield first sight of goal came after 9 minutes when a shot from Chris Dixon forced Phoenix keeper Aaron O’Shea to make a good save, then four minutes later Daniel Raven had a long range shot which went just over the bar, a few mins later at the other end Connor West also placed a shot over the bar

On the half hour mark Bardfield came close to the equaliser when Philip Smith curled in a shot which hit the Phoenix post, defender Darren Stokes blocked the follow-up shot on the line.

Bardfield continued to press and In 34th min Dan Raven had shot pushed out for a corner by keeper O’Shea, and from the corner, Chris Dixon shot wide, then Raven had another shot on goal which was also wide.

Two minutes from the interval the equaliser came when Bardfield scored after Ben McGlashan rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.

The second half started with both teams playing some attacking football, which was hard to do in the gusts of wind, neither side able to break the deadlock, as the hour mark passed Bardfield’s McGlashan had his curling shot saved by O’Shea and then 6 minutes later Witham Phoenix went back in front when Connor West’s cross-shot ended up in the Bardfield net for his second of the afternoon.

Bardfield tried to fight back but Billy Andrews free-kick cannoned of the bar

It was Phoenix that completed their first cup win when they extended their lead in added on time, Connor West picked up the ball in his own half and ran towards goal and scored his 3rd goal of the game earning him a hat-trick.
