Gordon Snell Trophy 3rd Round
Braintree Iron returned to action following a long lay off to progress through to the 4th round of the Gordon Snell cup with a comprehensive 5 – 1 win over Tiptree Elite. Iron were comfortable throughout and able to give all of the squad a valuable run out. The game was finished as a contest by half time with the Amber and Blacks having established a 4 – 0 lead. Lewis Soraf opened the scoring with a diving header at the far post assisted by Sam Jones following a set piece delivered with usual accuracy by Dan Norris. Michael Frearson made it 2 with a second headed goal from another set piece. Mitch Simmons bagged the 3rd after a goal mouth scramble – the dubious goals committee will have to sit on the assist. Simon Curry killed the tie finishing off a good passing move and cutting in from the wing to slot home. The scoring was completed in the second half by Tayla Hughes with a well taken strike. The Iron defence was very solid once again limiting Tiptree to very few goal scoring opportunities with keeper Phil Philipou rarely troubled. The central midfield trio of Sam Jones, Lewis Soraf and Billy Capper bossed the game providing the platform for a well deserved victory.
