Results ‘Round-Up’ Sunday 15th October 2017
Braintree Iron battled to a hard earned 3 points in the Premier League against Broomfield BNESL. Both sides appeared quite evenly matched throughout. Iron should have had the game wrapped up early in the second half having established a 3-1 lead but Broomfield proved stubborn opposition coming back to 3-2 and keeping the game in the balance until full time. In the end the Iron back line held firm superbly marshaled by Jamie Gray. Dan Norris was as solid as ever at centre back, The game was eventually won with the Amber and Blacks just about coming out on top in a tight midfield battle. Irons skipper Billy Capper put in a real captains performance in a holding role and still managed to bag the opening goal, Sam Jones and Lewis Soraf were given licence to get forward with Jones adding Braintree’s second. Out wide both Luke Frisby and Dan Ward put in a shift in positions that are not preferred but were important to the team. Nick Stackhouse was a constant threat up top giving the opposition defence a real test, his efforts paying off with the third goal. Dave Parker officiated and really kept good control of the match letting the game flow and managing the players well. The three points keeps the Irons nicely positioned in the League with games in hand.
Flitch United 5th in the table were at home to 4th placed Western Arms with Flitch United winning 5-1 to keep their 100% record in the league and move into second. They are 1 point off the top with a game in hand. Flitch United goal scorers are Billy Skinner 2, Joe Carey, Matteo Calvino & Theo Manley. The goal scorer for Western Arms was Kean Riseborough.
Braintree Legends 5th hosted Witham Nomads 6th with the away side winning 0-1 and swapping places in the league with Legends. Witham Nomads goal scorer was Eddie Holroyd.
Great Bradfords Reserves 4th hosted Witham Phoenix 8th with Great Bradfords Reserves winning 4-3 to move into 3rd place. Great Bradfords scorers were Adam Moses, Jack Gilgrist, Jack Morter & Keith Jones. Witham Phoenix goal scorers were John Smith, Jon Flowers & Fabreze Williams.
Witham Swan 2nd were home to Manor Works 3rd with the Home team winning 4-0 to stay in 2nd place. Witham Swan goal scorers were Marc De La Rue 2, Gavin Davis & Janes McGee.
Gordon Snell Trophy 2nd Round
Panfield Bell 2nd in Division 2 hosted Black Notley 3rd in the Premier Division and put up a good show losing 1-3 with Black Notley moving into the 3rd Round.
Malcolm Foy Memorial Trophy 2nd Round
Dunmow Rhodes 3 v Tolleshunt Knights Eagles 3 – After Extra Time.(Dunmow Rhodes FC Win 4-1 on Penalties).
This was a cracking cup game at High Easter on Sunday,when Dunmow Rhodes FC entertained Tolleshunt Knights Eagles in the second round ofThe Malcolm Foy Memorial Trophy,and against all the odds,won the game in a penalty shoot out.Rhodes had already suffered a 10-2 loss a few weeks ago, against the Eagles in the league,but this match had a few twists and turns,and credit must go to both teams for a very entertaining game.Rhodes started the stronger,with an early chance going over the bar.Rhodes then took the lead,when George Hamill sent over a corner,it was met by JP.Alexander and an excellent headed goal flashed past the Eagles keeper,Rhodes continued playing well,with the defence knocking out any Eagles attack,and the score stayed 1-0 at Half Time.The second half got underway with Rhodes taking a 2-0 lead when Kennie Irving and Sam Duberry playing some neat football found Jake Sutton in space to fire home. Ollie Blower was having a great game for Rhodes, man marking the dangerous Eagles front man Andy Cheek, but give this forward a slight sniff on goal and he will make you suffer, which he did with a decent headed goal to make it 2-1. Eagles then drew level with Brad Cole scoring to make it 2-2 after 90 minutes. The first half of extra-time Rhodes took the lead with Kennie Irving sending a pass through to skipper Christian Roles and with an excellent shot the ball curling past the Eagles keeper. Rhodes keeper Luke Johnson was having a good game in goal making some excellent saves and in the closing minutes of extra time Eagles were awarded a penalty which Johnson saved well. The Eagles scored there equalizer from a corner kick which was met by Gregg Cocoran to make it 3-3 After Extra Time. In the Penalty Shoot Out Dunmow Rhodes won 4-1. Rhodes scorers were Reece Cottrell,Kennie Irving, Jake Sutton and Josh Breeze. Dunmow Rhodes keeper Luke Johnson saved the first two of the Eagles Penaltys, Jordan Hoy scored 1 penalty for Tolleshunt Knights Eagles.
Premier Division Cup 1st Round
Witham United hosted Bocking Social and won 5-3 after extra time. Witham United goalscorers were R. King 2, M. Collingwood, L Smith & S. Ricks. Bocking Social goal scorers were Jake Snowling & Harry Groves 2.
Tiptree Elite 0-3 Nags Head Celtic A 10-man depleted Celtic brushed aside Tiptree Elite in the Premier Division Cup. Goals from Corey Carter and a brace for Rory Bone secured the win. Josh May MOM with an outstanding performance controlling the game from the middle of the park.
Premier Division Cup 2nd Round
Valley Green 0 CFC Shalford 2, A goal after 2 minutes gave Shalford the perfect start, a long through ball from Owen Rogers deflected off a defender in to the path of Hayden Mihlenstadt who slid the ball past the keeper.
Shalford completed the victory and secured a place in the semi-final with a second goal in the last minute when Tyrone White headed home.
Division One Cup – Group Stage A
Great Notley hosted Onley Arms and won 4-2. Great Notley goalscorers were Ben Hockley 2, Ben Hindley & James Bull. Onley Arms goal scorer was Ben Collar 2.
Tiptree Jobserve hosted Great Bardfield and won 2-1. Tiptree Jobserve goalscorer was James Scarlett – 2, while Great Bardfields goal scorer was Jamie Naunton.
