Results Roundup – Sunday 3rd September 2017

Today we saw the winners and runners up of the Premier Division last season play each other with the champions Western Arms coming out the convincing winners 11-0 against Witham United.  First game for Nags Head Celtic last seasons first division champions travelled to Braintree Irons, both teams gained a point in a hard thought 1-1 draw.  Valley Green played CFC Shalford at home, with CFC Shalford getting off to the perfect start with Tyrone White scoring twice in the first 2 minutes.  Shalford increased that lead after 34 minutes when Tim Readhead skirted past the keeper.  After 38 minutes Valley Green pulled a goal back with a great strike from Ryan McCormack and they made it 3-2 a minute before half time when Thomas Hayes flicked the ball in following a corner.  Shalford then made it 4-2 after 66 minutes with Matt Smith firing home a penalty after Adam Starckey was bought down in the box.  Valley pulled another goal back to make it 4-3 with 15 minutes to go when Ryan McCormack got his second of the game to make it an interesting final quarter, Valley pushed hard for the equaliser but Shalford held on for the win.
 
In Division One it was Onley Arms 1 Notley 2, an edgy first half ended with both teams 0-0, sub B Barnard neatly put the ball in the back of the net for Notley.  A penalty drew Onley level with great work by Love on the left saw debutant Knowles grab the winner with 10 minutes left. Great Bardfield entertained 3rd place Sporting 77 from last season and had a very good 4-1 win.  Relegated from the Premier Division last season Great Bradfords entertained Division 2 champions Great Notley who came away 4-3 winners.
 
New team Braintree Legends entertained TK Eagles in Division Two they shared the points in a 3-3 draw. 
A Great opening league game of the season was a five star classic,with Dunmow Rhodes and Valley Green Res playing out an excellent eight goal thriller at High Easter on Sunday.This was Dunmow Rhodes first game in the adult football league, The early stages of the first half was quite even,but Valley Green took the lead,from a well taken corner,the cross found the head of Ben Lambeth,with a good headed goal.Dunmow Rhodes were creating good chances,and from an Adam Griggs corner,JP.Alexander fired home to bring the scores level.Dunmow Rhodes keeper Luke Johnson had a good first in goal with some decent saves. The second half got underway with Dunmow Rhodes taking the lead,when brilliant control and shot by Charlie Gooch,the ball flashing into the bottom corner of the net,Valley Green soon drew level,when Ben Lambeth scored his second goal with a good header ,from a corner cross.Charlie Boyd then made it  3-2 for Valley Green from a good shot,and another good effort from Elliott Oliver made it 4-2,but Dunmow Rhodes came back strong,when Sam Hockley laid on a pass to Charlie Gooch,he ran at the defence,beat two players,fired in an excellent shot to make it 4-3.Sam Hockley was provider again,another pin point cross, found skipper Christian Roles to head home. 4-4 .The closing minutes of the game was all Dunmow Rhodes,with Sam Duberry testing the Valley Green  keeper, saving well,  George Watkins rattling the cross bar,and Christian Roles, shooting from the half way line,and the ball just going over the bar.Dunmow Rhodes can be very confident with this result,and Valley Green Res playing there part in an excellent contest.
Manor works were home to Great Bradfords Reserves, a hard fought game which ended 0-0.
In the battle of the two sides related from Division 1 last season visitors Witham Nomads had a good win against Panfield Bell with the game ending 1-10. In the battle of this Witham derby the home team Witham Swan came out the winners against Witham Phoenix winning 2-1 in a hard thought match.
