SC Crittall win Charlie Turnbull Memorial Trophy
Holders SC Crittall won the Charlie Turnbull Memorial Trophy after a 2-0 win against Tiptree Elite.
An early lengthy stoppage in play saw Crittall’s Kane Dobrowolski suffer a shoulder injury and had to be replaced by Dean Gilder. The game re-started and Tiptree had two good opportunities a Simmons shot from the edge of the area forced Smith to tip over the bar and from the resulting corner a goal bound header by Taylor was cleared away to safety, at the other end Jake Gilder shot from an acute angle forcing Morley to save with his legs for a corner, from Shipton’s corner Scott Lodge’s free header was cleared of the line by Lamb. Crittall’s took the lead after 14 minutes when Bradley Hickman and Jake Gilder combined well to set up Bone for a shot on goal, Morley saved well but Gilder managed to but the rebound back across the box and Matt STAINES was at the far post to head in to an empty net. Four minutes later Dean Gilder’s whipped in free-kick was headed wide by the diving Hickman and then Staines had his curling effort tipped over by Morley as Crittall’s began to turn the screw limiting Tiptree to long range efforts, Hickman’s net back heel through for Staines was saved by Morley’s legs, Scott Lodge strike from distance was saved and then Hickman missed the easiest chance of the half after he was set up by the lively Jake Gilder, Crittall continued to press as the half came to an end, Hickman’s good turn and shot went just over and then a ball across the area was sliced wide by Pater as they failed to convert their host of chances in to goals.
Half-time: Tiptree Elite 0 SC Crittall 1
Tiptree made two substitutions at the start of the second half in a bid to get back in to the game and they started the half in a positive mode forcing Crittall’s back into their own half without creating anything of note, Crittall’s were guilty of giving the ball away on several occasions allowing Tiptree to have a lot more of the ball but as hard as they try Tiptree who were playing with one up front were winning a lot of the midfield battle but were unable to get players up to support the lone striker only creating a few half chances at best, Crittall’s then got back on top and began having more opportunities a corner was again cleared of the line by Lamb and then they finally doubled their lead when a bent in cross by Lodge to the far post was met by Bradley HICKMAN who slammed the ball in to net. As the half came to a close Lodge had another long range effort tipped over by Morley and from the corner Lamb cleared the ball off the line for the third time in the match, the final whistle arrived and Crittall lifted the trophy for the sixth time in a row.
