Tiptree Elite victorious in Malcolm Foy Trophy
Tiptree Elite lifted their second piece of silverware this season following a 2-0 win against Notley this evening.
Notley created the first opportunity after 2 minutes when a poor clearance from Tiptree keeper Morley fell nicely to Ferrell but he fired wide. Tiptree’s first attack came down the right when Harris put in a fine cross which was well cleared by Notley’s Callum Foster at the far post. Notley were having a lot of the play, Thomas Lightly’s free-kick from inside his own half bounced awkwardly in front of Morley and he was forced to push over the bar for a corner which Ferrell headed wide when well placed, then a strike from distance by Thompson was again saved by Morley, 2 minutes later a ball over the top caused problems for Tiptree full-back Makepeace as he allowed Smith in behind, he cut in and got a shot away which was well blocked by a sliding Curtis Bonnick. Tiptree then took the lead mid-way through the half when Matthew EVE received the ball on the edge of the penalty area he turned and fired in to the top left hand corner of the net. Notley made a double substitution to change things but it was Tiptree who had the next opportunity when Mario Andrew tried his luck from distance but the ball went just over, down the other end substitute Adam Potts made a probing run through the middle but just he was about to shoot Bonnick was there again to clear to safety. As the half drew to a close Andrew had another chance for Tiptree heading Lamb’s free-kick just wide.
Half-time – Notley 0 Tiptree Elite 1
Notley had the first chance of the second half when Simpson shot from the edge of the box forcing Morley to dive full length to save, Andrew for Tiptree was again in the action as his shot from the corner of the box hit the roof of the net and then shooting across goal but wide of the target. Both teams made substitutions which disrupted the flow of the game for a period as it settled down Tiptree began to get on top, a free-kick from Barmen was tipped over the bar by Warren, Matthew Allum and Mario Andrew combined well with the later forcing a late save from Warren then Matt Eve’s goal bound shot was deflected for a corner and they finally doubled the lead with 7 minutes left, Harry HARRIS flicking the ball up for himself before firing in to the net giving warren no chance. To there credit Notley kept going and had the final chance of the match when Lipede set up Phillips for a shot but they were thwarted again by a good tackle this time by Makepeace to keep the clean sheet intact and give Tiptree the victory.
