Dunmow Rhodes win Premier Division Cup

Dunmow Rhodes won today’s Premier Division Cup Final at Halstead Town after a 2-1 win against Western Arms.
Western had the first threat on goal in the opening minutes when David Hawes rattled the cross bar from 6 yards out and then Steve Bennett hit the side netting from close range following a long free-kick into the area, Western continued to push for the opening goal and mid-way through the half a corner was cleared away by Dunmow keeper McCarthy but only to Dan Mackie whose shot was cleared of the line, as the half went on Dunmow came more in to it and they scored the opening goal right on half-time when Nigel Ololade found the western net.

Half-time: Western Arms 0 Dunmow Rhodes 1

Western Arms equalised with fifteen minutes of the match remaining when a corner was flicked on by Tony Walkin for Kevin Hawes to head in to the net. Dunmow then had the chance to go back in front again but Nigel Ololade squandered a one on one chance and then down the other end Kevin Hawes saw a similar one on one chance go begging. Dunmow substitute Luke Thorndyke then shot straight at English in the Western goal when well placed but it was Thorndyke who snatched the winner for Dunmow in the dying minutes when his shot took a deflection of a western defender and went into the net to give them their first piece of silverware.
