Gordon Snell Trophy
During the close season our Management Committee agreed to rename our premier cup competition The Gordon Snell Trophy in an effort to recognise the massive contribution that Gordon has made to football both locally & further afield. Gordon was a founder member of our competition in 1970 which started with just 8 clubs. He held Executive positions within the league including Chairman & President for a total of 30 years & was a prime mover in getting the local council to provide more football facilities for the local community. Gordon has also undertaken a number of key roles within Essex FA starting as a Group Representative in 1967 working his way to being Chairman from 1987-2000. He remains a Life Member with Essex FA. Whilst working with Essex FA he represented them at key meetings with a number of National bodies. Gordon was also a founder member of White Notley FC in 1950 again holding a number of roles including Chairman & is a Life Vice President of the club. Gordon’s numerous awards include: FA Long Service Gold Medal (50 years service), Essex FA honours Badge & Essex FA Long Service Gold Medal. As our President Gordon continues to provide invaluable support & guidance to our Management Committee. Gordon is also a great family man & outside football loves to spend time with wife Betty, their 2 children, 5 grandchildren & one great grandson. It can be seen that Gordon is truly worthy in having this trophy named after him indeed perhaps he should be called Braintree’s ‘Mr Football’.
