Rovers travelled to Stisted in a top of the table six pointer, determined to avenge our recent defeat to our hosts. The pitch resembled The Battle of the Somme and we heard that it was recently used for trench warfare scenes in the current movie, 1917? Seriously, grass roots football deserves so much more from the FA and local government when it comes to pitches for us all to play on. People wonder why player participation is dropping off and why people Choose to play on Astroturf and the state of pitches is a major factor. Clubs pay hire fees to local councils and we all pay council tax yet very little is done to improve park pitches and we all, as Sunday footballers, deserve so much more. Stisted certainly do from their local authorities, that’s for sure. Rovers dominated early on but Stisted opened the scoring against the run of play, which only galvanised us. We remained calm and Lefkos Constantinou, quickly put us level with a powerful finish. We should have been further in front before Lee Rider scooped the ball in the net in the scramble from a corner. Just before half time, Callum Sparrow went on a little dribble before banging one in from 30 yards. It’s on our Facebook page for all you long range screamer fans. We knew the second half would be more difficult, although we had plenty of chances to put the game to bed but half way through the second half, Stisted made a game of it from a set piece as the ball was bundled into the net .A Stisted bombardment never quite materialised although there was a shout for a penalty but the ref was consistent with his interpretation throughout the game, so it was highly unlikely to be given. Rovers saw the game out to win 3-2 and strengthen our title challenge.

Witham Phoenix 10th hosted Witham White Horse 5th and the home side won 5-2, no movement. Witham Phoenix’s goal scorers were Gary Johnson 2, Jon Flowers, Bradley Grey & Regan Turner.
