Witham Town FC ( 5 ) v Dunmow Rhodes FC ( 3 )

Cup holders Dunmow Rhodes travelled to the Sauls Bridge Playing Field in Witham in the division 1 cup semi final and played out an excellent eight goal thriller against division 1 league leaders Witham Town. The sun was out on a good crowd, with support coming from both teams.Dunmow Rhodes took an early lead when a long through ball found Jack Shaw who whipped the ball past Witham Town keeper Jack Stoneham, both teams were playing good football, but the Dunmow Rhodes defence were working hard led by Ollie Blower.Witham Town pulled a goal back, with a decent finish from Jacob Palmer, but Dunmow Rhodes went in at Half Time leading 1-2 from an excellent finish by Frank Ladlow. The second half got underway with Witham Town pulling level with a goal from Max Wilson to make it 2-2.Dunmow Rhodes then took the lead for the third time with another goal coming from Frank Ladlow, but the lead did not last long when Max Wilson scored again for Witham Town 3-3.Dunmow Rhodes did score again, but it was an unfortunate own goal, which put Witham Town in the lead for the first time in the match making it 4-3,and in the closing minutes of the game Max Wilson completed his hat trick slipping the ball past Dunmow Rhodes keeper Luke Johnson to make the Final Score 5-3.

Full Credit to Referee Rodger Crane who also had a good game.

Division Two Cup Semi Final

Braintree Legend Reserves hosted Finchingfield Rovers and the away side won 3-2 and go through to the final. Braintree Legend Reserves goal scorers were Jamie Anderson 1 & Bailey Wright 1 and Finchingfield Rovers goal scorers were Jake Lander 1, Jared Spencer 1 & Charlie Pitt 1.

Well, they say good teams are able to grind out a result when they play badly and Rovers certainly did that today. In difficult conditions and with a clear lack of match fitness, Rovers were unbelievably lucky to go in at half time only 0-1 down. It was by far the worst 45 minutes we’ve played as a side this year as Braintree just wanted it more and won every header, tackle

And second ball. After a bollocking at half time and with the conditions now in our favour, we gradually started to play and made several chances but it looked like it wasnt our day, until Jake Lander scrambled home a 97th min equaliser that I’m not sure we deserved.  However, not ones to look a gift horse in the mouth, we then controlled most of extra time  before Jared  Spencer’s cross was taken by the wind into the net.  Charlie Pitt made it 3-1 , 3 mins into second half before Braintree grabbed a consolation to make the last six minutes very interesting but we held on to reach our second final in two years. Not bad for a team formed on the back of a fag packet at the last minute!

Division Two

Notley Reserves 9th hosted Tolleshunt Knight Eagles 8th and the home team won 2-1 and move up to 9th.  Notley Reserves goal scorers were Tom Boot 1 & Harley Scott 1 and Tolleshunt Knight Eagles goal scorer was Andy Cheek 1
