This was a cracking game of well controlled football in the Gordon Snell Trophy against Dunmow Rhodes and Witham Town played at High Easter on Sunday with Witham Town just easing through to the next round with a 3-2 victory. Both teams were creating chances in the first quarter of the game, and it was Dunmow Rhodes keeper Luke Johnson who pulled of a great save, tipping the ball over the cross bar,at the other end Kennie Irving sent in a good free kick,it was well stopped by Witham Town keeper Ky Richardson he had to make excellent double save when the rebound fell to Sam Duberry .Witham Town took the lead midway through the first half, from a decent shot by James Brown,Luke Johnson made another excellent save after a good shot from Jamie Panting, but Witham Town found the back of the net again, when Jake Stewart made a run on goal and a good shot past Luke Johnson to make it 2-0 at Half Time.Witham Town made it 3-0 early in the second half when Jamie Panting scored and the game looked out of Dunmow Rhodes reach, buthome teams midfield dynamo Emilio Caceres Sola had other ideas,he was causing problems in the Witham Town defence throughout the game and he netted Dunmow Rhodes first goal, squeezing past a defender and the goal keeper,to tap the ball into the net, this rearly fired the home team into gear and another goal came with good play from his team mates,Emilio Caceres Sola whipped in another excellent goal to make it 3-2 with five minutes remaining,it was all hands on deck in the Witham Town defence, but they held firm, with the Final Score ending 2-3.
Halstead Town of Division One hosted Braintree Iron from the Premier Division and the away side went through with a 6-1. Halstead Towns goal scorer was Lewis Wollington and Braintree Iron’s goal scorers were Joel Soraf, Luke Frisby 3, Sam Jones & Jordan Miller.
Braintree Iron FC saw off a spirited challenge from Halstead Town Sunday to win 1 – 6 away in the Gordon Snell Trophy. After a period where the fixture schedule has not been particularly kind and still missing a number of senior players the depth of the Iron squad came through a potentially difficult tie in some style. The keeper and defence remained solid throughout limiting the opposition to few clear chances. Recent signing Tom Wright is already proving a valuable addition adding pace in both defence and going forward out wide. In central midfield Billy Capper just gets better like a fine wine adding real bite and a range of passing that opponents struggle to deal with. Jordan Miller scored a screamer from distance and kept things ticking over in the middle of the park. Sam Jones put in his usual all action display linking the midfield and attack and got a well deserved goal for his efforts. It was hard to split the Iron managers pick for man of the match Luke Frisby with 3 goals including a powerful header and opportunist strikes having made up a lot of ground into the box to finish off good passing moves. Joel Soraf also had without doubt his best 90 minutes in the Amber/Black providing a constant threat to the Halstead defence with some solid hold up play and clever touches leading the line and was also well worthy of his goal.
