This week the Braintree and North Sunday league saw the start of the Charlie Turnbull Memorial Trophy with the only first round match between Witham Galacticos of the 1st division and Onley Arms of the 3rd division. Onley started well but unfortunately couldn’t keep with Galacticos as they ran out 8-1 winners, scorers for Galacticos were Mitchell Yeo Hat-trick, Jamie Laws 2, Jamie Panting, Kane Orr and Charlie Humphreys the scorer for Onley was Luke Markey.
In the Third Division Witham Phoenix continued their fantastic start to the season with a 3-0 away win over Broomfield scorers for Phoenix were Keith McCoy with a brace and Remy Stewart. This moves them in to 3rd place just behind Great Bardfield who move up to 2nd with an impressive 8-2 thumping of Valley Green Reserves. Scorers for Bardfield were Matt Potter hat-trick, Dan Ravens hat-trick, Ben McGlashan and Chris Dixon, the 2 goals for Valley Green came John Flowers and James Martin.
Top of the table are currently Coggeshall Town who had to come from behind against Notley and grab a late winner for a 3-2 victory to keep their 100% start to the season scorers for Notley were Ferrell and Phillips. Bocking Social Reserves are still looking for their 1st points of the season and were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Witham Swan, scorer for Swan was Gavin Davies with a brace and the goal for Bocking was scored by Pete Baynard.
In the Second Division TK Eagles are still looking for their break in fortunes and went down to a 7-1 defeat to CFC Shalford A Jack Gilgrist opened the scoring for Shalford after 10 minutes, Steve Crosdale doubled the lead from a corner. Jason Smith then made it 3-0 scoring from the edge of box under the keeper. Eagles then pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 at half-time. Richard Wood made it 4-1 early in the second half before Dean Marange scored the fifth from 20 yards out, Wood then got his second of the game to make it 6-1 after keeper fumbled a free kick, Josh Jenkins got the final goal to make it 7-1.
Last season’s top 2 of the third division played today in the second division and Panfield Bell Reserves got the spoils 6-0 against SC Kelvedon, Levi Grey 2, Kevin Story, Liam Chapman, Kevin Wells and Dan Edridge got bell the all important goals.
Witham United Stay top after a win over Sporting 77 Reserves 5-1. Marti Cullum 2, Ricky Leftly, John Button and Ashley Strode for united and Frisby for Sporting. Tiptree Elite lost by the odd goal in 7 against Witham Nomads, moving them up to 2nd in the table.
First Division only had one close score line between Panfield Bell and CFC Shalford Reserves. The home side took a 1-0 lead thanks to Ellis Carter before Nicky Simpson equalised to make it 1-1 at half-time. The visitors went 2-1 up when Peter Havelin slipped the ball past the keeper, Shalford then made it 3-1 up when Sean McClelland lobbed the advancing keeper. Panfield pulled a second goal back in the last minute through Charlie Frost. 3-2 it finished.
Bocking Social put 3 past Valley Green without reply scorers were Stuart Kent 2 and Luke Snowling.
Zizou also won by the same scoreline against Manor Works scorers Jake Buckland, Elliot Ellwood and Charlie Smith for Zizou.
Terling went one better and top of the table winning 4-0 away to Old Bramstonians scorers for Terling were Tristan Woolfenden 2, Jay Cracknell and Frazer Gardiner.
The Premier Division saw the first slip up of the season by Western Arms away to Rayne as they drew 1-1 in a heated game scorer for Rayne Paul Miller. Titan United came from 2 down to win 3-2 and keep their 100% winning start and put the pressure on top spot against Beaumont Wanderers who were 2 goals up thanks to Ezra Drann but 2 Paul Sheppard goals and Jack Butcher gave Titan the win. George FC Thumped 12 past a struggling Cressing side who are at the foot of the table 2 goals for Cressing showed they need to defend a bit tighter the scorers for Cressing were Owen Rogers and Matthew Morris. Martin Brighton scored 2 goals for Sporting 77 but they conceded 9 at home to CFC Shalford. Shalford made their intentions clear by taking a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes, first Jordan Miller shot home from the edge of the area and then debutant Josh Grainger’s overhead kick gave him the first of five goals on a sensational debut. Sam Jones got the third and then Grainger got his second to make it 4-0 at half-time. Carl Kelly headed in to make it 5-0 before sporting pulled one back straight from the kick-off with a 30 yard lob over the keeper. Lee Glynn restored the five goal lead with a sixth and then Grainger got three more to make it 9-1 before Sporting pulled another late goal back. The win puts Shalford into third spot in the table.
In the Essex County Sunday Premier Cup 1st Round SC Crittall travelled to Hutton and travel well they did coming back the victors 4-1. Brad Hickman, Dan Shipton, Matt Staines and James Cordery got the goals to put them in the next round.
Next week sees the start of the second round of the Charlie Turnbull Trophy and furthermore the top two clash in the premier division.
